Academic Issues Committee
Chair: President Michael McDonough, Raritan Valley Community College
The Academic Issues Committee (AIC) was established by the New Jersey Presidents’ Council (NJPC) to review and make recommendations to the NJPC on matters related to new academic degree program proposals, changes in academic programs, institutional licensure, and university status. Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:3B-8 et seq., the AIC reviews proposals for new academic degree programs, changes in degree designations, joint program offerings, and changes in location of offerings.
Additionally, the AIC must be notified by New Jersey institutions on matters of programmatic change, including changes in nomenclature, termination of programs, certificate offerings, and option development.
Finally, the AIC also makes recommendations to the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE) about matters such as licensure and re-licensure of institutions, establishment of branch campuses, exceeding or changing programmatic mission, and the conversion to university status of a New Jersey institution.
