NJPC Endorses New Transfer Agreement
The New Jersey Presidents’ Council has endorsed the new state-wide Transfer Agreement which colleges and universities throughout the state began following in September. The action came at the Council’s Executive Board meeting on September 22.
Most four-year public institutions, and community colleges, have signed on to the Agreement and most of the remaining schools are expected to endorse it soon. Susan Cole, co-chair of the NJPC’s Transfer Committee and president of Montclair State University, advised the Council that the Transfer Agreement would be reviewed on an annual basis to assess its effectiveness.
The Commission on Higher Education will collect data each year from participating colleges and universities so that the Commission, and the Presidents’ Council, can assess implementation of the Agreement. Specifically, the NJPC Transfer Committee will bear responsibility for assessing the overall effectiveness of the agreement in fostering a seamless transfer process and the academic success of transfer students at the senior institutions.
The Transfer Agreement was developed by the Presidents’ Council, working with the Commission on Higher Education, in response to legislation that focused on student transfer issues in public colleges and universities, including community colleges. Many independent and proprietary institutions have expressed their desire to enter into a similar agreement with community colleges.
