Q. What is the New Jersey Presidents' Council?
A. The NJPC represents New Jersey's public and private universities and colleges, and all community colleges; 50 institutions in all
Q. Who attends meetings of the NJPC?
A. The NJPC is made up of the presidents of the 50 colleges and universities that receive state aid, the presidents of three proprietary schools, and the presidents of the two largest religious colleges.
Q. How long has the NJPC been in existence?
A. The NJPC was created by the 1994 Higher Education Restructuring Act, which also created the Commission of Higher Education. Together, the Council and the Commission work to improve higher education programs and services for New Jersey.
Q. What does the NJPC do?
A. The Council is charged to make recommendations on new programs, regional alliances between schools, budget and student financial aid levels, the state higher ed master plan, and licensure for institutions.
Q. Who funds the NJPC?
A. Funding for the Council's limited operating budget comes from the member institutions. Each institution is assessed based on enrollment; so assessments range from $3,750 for Rutgers to $1,500 for Drew University.
Q. How often does the NJPC meet?
A. The full membership meets three times a year, in October, February and June. The Executive Board meets five times a year in September, November, December, March and April.
Q. Can anyone attend NJPC meetings?
A. Generally, yes. But it is recommended that you notify the Council in advance, especially if you intend to comment on a specific issue. Do that by emailing njpc@njedge.net at least two weeks in advance of a scheduled meeting.
